Muzondiwa relishes Platinum challenge

HARARE - Brian Muzondiwa says he is pleased to have completed a move to FC Platinum and is fully focused on helping the team achieve success in 2015 following his move there from Black Rhinos.

The Zvishavane-based side’s first port of call will be to make an impact in the African Confederations Cup before mounting a serious challenge for the Castle Premiership.

Muzondiwa, who has also played for DStv Rangers, had an outstanding 2014 season for Black Rhinos, helping the army side reach the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

Rhinos were however relegated at the end of the season.

Midfielder Wellington Kamudyariwa, who signed from Shabanie Mine, alongside Nigel Papias, who was promoted from the juniors, are the other notable additions to the Platinum squad.

Norman Mapeza’s men will regroup this week to begin preparations for their Confederations Cup preliminary round tie against Kenyan side Sofapaka FC next month, and the 22-year old revealed his readiness.

“I am happy to have completed my move to Platinum,” he told the Daily News yesterday.

“No doubt, it’s one of the biggest teams in the country. This will afford me a chance to showcase my talent especially that the team will be playing in the Confederations Cup.

“Playing in Africa can change one’s career and I am relishing the challenge. I am looking forward to do well with Platinum then maybe move to Europe in the years to come.

“I understand there are also good players who play the same position as mine at Platinum, but competition is healthy for the club. I want to win trophies with Platinum.”

The Chibuku Super Cup winners will begin their campaign with an away trip to Nairobi for the first leg on the weekend of between February 13 and 15.

The platinum miners will then host the Kenyans for the second leg on the weekend of February 27 and March 1.

A win for Platinum against Sofapaka in the preliminary round will see them meet the winner between Young Africans of Tanzania and Botswana Defence Forces XI in the first round of the tournament.

There is a strong possibility that Platinum could face Tunisian side Étoile du Sahel provided the North African giants negotiate past their first round clashes, where they will face either Benfica de Luanda of Angola or Burundi’s Messenger Ngozi.
