Crocker begins 2015 on a high

HARARE - Zimbabwe’s teenage golf star Sean Crocker got his 2015 season off to a flying start after bagging the San Diego Amateur presented by Callaway Golf over the weekend.

The University of Southern California freshman recovered from a first round 75 to post a tournament-low 67 on Sunday before going on to win the 36-hole event by two shots.

His teammate and fellow freshman Jonah Texeira, from Porter Ranch, took solo second place at 144 (73-71).

Coming off a disappointing 75 on Saturday, Crocker cleaned up his game for the final round and was happy with the result.

"I drove the ball a lot better, hit more greens, and my putter got hot," the 17-year-old said.

At one point, Crocker had six one-putts in a row, which included a string of birdies from holes 15 to 17.

Crocker, who now lives Westlake Village, California, followed that with a par on the difficult par- four 18th before bogeying his last hole of the day.
