Ishmael to appear in court today

HARARE - Johanne Masowe eChishanu Budiriro 2-based sect leader Madzibaba Ishmael Mufani who was arrested last week is expected to appear in court today.

He was further detained to today after police officers were granted a warrant of further detention.

Mufani was on the run since May last year after members of his sect attacked journalists, police details and Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) officials who had gone to close down his church over allegations of child and women abuse.

The church is accused of using doctrines that perpetuate sexual abuse of women and denying children their rights to health and education facilities.

Eleven of Mufani’s followers are serving four-year jail terms each after they were convicted of violence charges.

Kudzanayi Kusekwa, 31, Cabson Chandaona, 43, Takavengwa Gwenzi, 46, Tichafa Madyegora, 41, Johanes Makumbe, 39, Ndumiso Moyo, 33, Alexio Kanhema, 37, Clement Chimutso, 47, Madzimure Madzimure, 36, Charles Matanga, 42, and Darlington Mambayo, 46, were jailed after being found guilty of public violence.Madzibaba
