Leave Daily News alone

EDITOR — The current onslaught against the Daily News smacks of a desperate regime clutching on straws to save its already tattered image.

Where in the world does the State fail to understand that the shareholding of a company can be obtained from the Registrar of Companies’ offices.

This does not even need a rocket scientist to understand, moreover to file a court application for that to happen. This  shows the extent to which the foolishness has gone.

While the police officers have shown to be working as lapdogs for politicians, their escapades have exposed their professionalism and ability to do work.

The current move reminds me of how the Daily News, which is undoubtedly the best newspaper in the country, was unjustly shut down in 2003.

This followed a series of other onslaughts, including the bombing of its offices.

I believe the publication is paying the price for telling it like it is. I believe President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace are trying to use the so-called investigations to subdue their “opponent” former VP Joice Mujuru, whom they claim owns 10 percent shares in the widely-read newspaper.

Such a dogmatic approach to issues raises eyebrows and stinks of people who do not know what they are doing.

If a system stays too long in place, it ends up believing that its power lasts forever.

But changes always happen and whether, they (current leaders) like it or not, it is bound to happen.

It is not a secret that Mugabe is old and by his own words is now taking orders from his wife.

He is making those around him manipulate his instincts for their own benefit.

Several lies have been propped up, with the aid of the State-controlled media, aimed at tarnishing certain individuals.

I write as a concerned and avid reader of the Daily News.

Even if Joice was to own the said shares, is it a crime?

It boggles the mind, why grown up men would be used to such an extent.

No wonder why one of the police officers refused to identify himself. It is very clear he did not want his name to be dragged in the mud and appear foolish to the whole world for embarking on a stupid mission.

I will continue reading the Daily News.

Keep up the good work!
