Mugabe sacks 7 more ministers

HARARE - As expected President Robert Mugabe yesterday fired seven more ministers as the purge against people aligned to former vice president Joice Mujuru continues.

In a statement released by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck Sibanda, the seven were sacked in terms of Section 108(1) (a) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) Act  2013.

According to the statement, “His Excellency the President Cde RG Mugabe, has further relieved the following ministers and deputy ministers of their duties and functions with immediate effect, as it had become apparent that their conduct and performance were below the expected standards and outcome”.

The ministers who were fired yesterday are: Flora Buka, minister of State for Presidential Affairs; Sylvester Nguni, minister of State in the Vice President’s Office; Paul Chimedza, Deputy minster of Health and Child Care; Tongai Muzenda, deputy minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Services and Tendai Savanhu, deputy minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement.

Also axed were Petronella Kagonye, deputy minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development and her Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs counterpart Fortune Chasi.

Earlier this month, Mugabe axed, along with Mujuru, Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa, Labour minister Nicholas Goche, Indigenisation minister Francis Nhema, Higher and Tertiary Education minister Olivia Muchena, ICT minister Webster Shamu and Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Simbaneuta Mudarikwa.

Energy minister Dzikamai Mavhaire and his deputy Munacho Mutezo were also among those guillotined.

The whole government including the head of state should be fired as its "conduct and performance are deemed as below the expected standards and outcome"

Zanu has failed the country and itself. The good thing is zimbabwe will remain behind when all this zanu madness dies a natural death. zanu pf and mugabe appoint ministers as rewards not competance based. The all have no idea what to do in those ministries

X-MAN IV - 22 December 2014

Purging will continue until either Mr Mugabe dies or until the next elections, whichever will come first. Current purging is meant to open positions for the mnangagwa clan. They are being rewarded with these posts. Ultimately even the two new VPs will be purged. They are being used for this short moment but when the stage is set, when the desired environment avails itself they too will be purged. The chosen one will then take over. The chosen one is a dark horse, unknown in politics and is probably not even a politician right now. Mr Mugabe sees himself as God who controls the path of events ,and the lives of the people. But what if he dies before his desired outcomes are achieved. Those he hates so much may be the ones taking over the Presidency of the country. I wish this happens while he is still alive, though chances of that happening are now very slim.

Mhondoro Ngezi Resident - 23 December 2014

The ministers were fired because "their conduct and performance were below the expected standards and outcome." That's rich coming from a government that had to resort to minting coins and using other nations' currencies after theirs became extinct due to economic mismanagement. Can anyone name just one ministry that is being run efficiently? Why not just call a spade a spade and not a very big spoon and say they were fired for being close associates of the ousted VP? We are not that naive.

What a joke the fired ministers and deputies went off because of poor delivery?if they were fired because of poor delivery why is Chombo,Kasukuwere,Jonathan Moyo and other charlatans still doing? What has simply happened is the now incapacitated Cde R.G Mugabe being remotely controlled by his wife who was in turn sent to work by Mnangangwa at the instigation of this clueless mafikizolos Zhuwawaos gave the wago-jumpers like Chiyangwa,Jonathan Moyo and Kasukuweres and Chombos an opportunity to look good and gain favours within their league of kakistocrats. While Jonathan got a chance to manipulate the party as he bounces back with his tsholotsho campaign for the second time. Now all that got a blessing from our incapacitated R.G Mugabe who still think little in politics of democracy and who never dreamt of having a succcessor. All who criticized were axed.to sho clearly the political matrix in Zanu Pf is anti-Mugabe almost all provinces didnt want him as seen by almost all Provincial chairpersons were removed Temba Mliswa -Mash West,Ray Kaukonde-Mash East,Amos Midzi-Harare Province,C.Gwaneta-Masvingo ,A.Mvundura-Manicaland,J.Machaya -Midlands.Cde President thats a vote of no confidence that you got from us your fellow comrades with respect.Semukuru we at Zanu Pf we are cultured we dont do the Burkina Faso style.we want you to be relieved of your duties in government only because we see that you have done your part and its now time for another Cde to take over be it Cde Mnangangwa,Cde Mphoko or even the bouncing back of Cde Mujuru ,Cde Dabengwa or Even Mr Tsvangirai .we need only to have firts and foremost Zim at heart inyika yababa

Those fired are just collateral damage where the main target was Joice Mujuru. To make the plot plausible there had to be some collateral damage. Why they are called ministers is a mystery because they act more like parrots than ministers. Some are apologising for being fired! The docility is breathtaking. The Congress was used to settle scores. One man making all the appointments and all the decisions since 1980! Whether Mugabe is able to do the job is not important.

Musona - 23 December 2014

Are these guys he is firing going to be replaced by his relatives

Zimbabwe iS mine - 23 December 2014

Firing of Ministers is not a solution to the Zimbabwean solutions. This is a sign of clear Dictatorship where one doesn't want to be challenged. We now wait to see if at all this is going to improve the state of the Economy. People need the common issues of bread and butter to be addressed and daily lives improved. Its surprising to note that the many areas of corruption within the First Family is not even touched, whilst others have to be investigated. Can a Nation be complemented on such things? I doubt very much

@mhondoro ngezi scribe & @mhondoro ngezi resident you have no need to rejoice. This has been a Mugabe lead ZANU-PF party pattern since 1977. Ask Heneri Hamadziripi (late), Dzino (late), Rugare Gumbo, Dumiso Dabengwa, Lookout Masuku (late), Edgar Tekere (late), Enos Nkala (late), Shambambeva Nyandoro (the late), Edson Zvobgo (late), Jonathan Moyo, Joshua Nkomo, Chris Mushowe etc. it I standard practise for ZANU-PF to kick backsides of some big names at (or before) every Congress, Conference, or election. Those who then come crawling back to "His Excellence" will be less powerful after being pardoned and can be given any task and they will carry it out without question to maintain their positions. Those who refuse will be left in the doldrums until they come crawling back or they die in oblivion - Clement Muchachi (if my memory saves me well) was carried in a scotch-cart before he passed on, same with Mayor Urimbo all because they did not go crawling back. H.E. was not present to bury Edgar Tekere because he did not come crawling back. It is not about a Zimbabwe for all, but H.E.'s Zimbabwe - "Blair, keep your Britain and I will keep my Zimbabwe." Mnangagwa and Mphoko are hanging precariously and they know it. In 2004 Mnangagwa and the Dinyane guys were kicked after the Goromonzi Conference. Just check what has happened after an election and at the setting up of the leadership that will be at the helm at the next election
