Mandigora bounces back at DeMbare

HARARE - David Mandigora admits he is under pressure to replicate Calisto Pasuwa’s success after his appointment as new Dynamos coach yesterday.

Mandigora returns to Dynamos for a second spell, having guided the Harare giants to their first league title in a decade back in 2007.

He replaces Pasuwa, who has declined a new deal despite winning a fourth successive title with the club.

Tonderai Ndiraya also bounced back as assistant coach, while a second assistant coach and goalkeepers’ coach will be named later.

“It’s a difficult task to take over from somebody who has done so well,” said Mandigora told reporters yesterday.

“But I hope I will be able to do the same. Winning the championship four years in a row, Pasuwa has broken all the records but I cannot do it in one year; winning four titles. I will try my best to win some trophies.

“There is always pressure. I have got to be able to live with it. At a big club, you always have a lot of pressure. I am accepting this big challenge without a problem. That’s why I am a coach.”

Mandigora, a former Dynamos player, led the Glamour Boys to the African Champions League semi-finals in 2008.

His assistant, Ndiraya, left the Harare giants unceremoniously half way through the 2013 season, citing irreconcilable differences with Pasuwa.

Richard Chihoro bounced as the club’s team manager while the second assistant coach and the goalkeepers’ coach will be announced in due course.

Kenny Mubaiwa, meanwhile, will assume a new role as the club president. He was previously chairman of the executive committee.

Mubaiwa paid tribute to outgoing coach Pasuwa.

He said: “I would also like to thank Pasuwa for a wonderful job that he did for the club for the past four years. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
