Airport Lounge to close

HARARE - The Airport Lounge will close down just after Christmas.

Biggie Chinoperekwei, owner of Airport Lounge, says it was a mistake to open the loss-making pub.

Located along Airport Road, Airport Lounge was opened early this year and was synonymous with strip and dance competitions.

“It is no longer in our best interest to operate the Airport Lounge,” Chinoperekwei said.

“We are not getting the desired results and business-wise we are making losses.

“People are not going to the place. The location itself is not convenient and people prefer to go to the Private Lounge in town, rather than drive or get a taxi.

“On the location again, it is adult entertainment and it is hard to have it in an area like Hatfield, it is more of a family area.”

Chinoperekwei said they had taken measures to cut down on losses but it was futile.

“When we started, we were open every day but nowadays it’s only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays,” he said.

“For a business that was originally meant to be open every day, this is a great loss.

“We also cut down on the staff there.”

“There are, however,  plans to have another place opened in March. We will open a new one around March,” he said.

“I cannot tell you the exact location but the new place will be accessible to people from the northern suburbs as they were the clientele that went to Airport Lounge.

It will be a good environment for them and nearer their homes, for their convenience as well.

“It was an upmarket venue and it will remain so. We are looking into the future as any other business and I believe this move will cushion us for the future as well.”
