I'm not under house arrest — Mujuru

HARARE - Expelled Vice President Joice Mujuru has denied that she is under house arrest.

Speaking from her residence in Chisipite, Harare, she said news wire reports that she had been placed under house arrest were “mere rumours”.

“I was at the farm now, who is peddling those rumours?” she asked the Daily News in a terse message yesterday.

Reports suggested that Mujuru, who was booted out of the presidium by President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday after being accused of attempting to remove her 90-year-old boss from power through unconstitutional means, had been placed under deadly surveillance.

She was  sacked together with  eight Cabinet ministers.

They were also accused of being corrupt and fanning factionalism within Zanu PF.

Mujuru staunchly denied the accusations.

She has since been replaced by ex-Justice minister Emmerson Mnangagwa, who took oath of office yesterday.

Following her dismissal, she told  Studio 7: “You know some people say politics is a dirty game, this time in Zanu PF it has become dirtier. I have no capacity of doing those things. There is no way, and nobody has ever even suggested to me that these things that you are trying to do VP are wrong.

“It’s politicking; these are some of the things that were started towards congress. We were some of us, especially I, not given a chance to explain even to discuss some of these things,”she said.

All these allegations, before proof of guilty before the courts, and what appears sustained persecution by a hegemonic ruling class, void of democratic considerations, have unwittingly catapulted this lady to a most popular leader in Zimbabwe today. Ignore her at your own peril. Mind you there is also the Rex Nhongo untimely death factor. Harassing her only adds to her popularity. Zimbabweans, unite, build bridges and move forward the motherland forward.

Young Joyce, welcome to the real world in Zimbabwe. You dared to express true democracy. Obviously, it is a fact that you wanted to replace RG Mugabe at congress at in a democratic way. That was correct as far as we, the general population, are concerned. We all know that it is all hogwash that you intended to stage a coup to replace RG Mugabe. Are you ignorant or is it that you had forgotten that your party is not democratic at all. This is why there is no democracy in this country. Let nobody tell you that Zanu_PF brought democracy into this country. In fact, we are worse than we were in Rhodesia. The comparison issue is not the scope of my point in time. My point is that your party, Zanu-PF long stopped being a true people's movement. It morphed into a Mafia group whose Godfather is RG Mugabe. You were the number 2 Mafia boss. Boy oh boy! Now you see, there was never any congress for you and your allies. Your party appoints people into positions not based on performance but ; blind loyalty; sycophancy; patronage. The result is what this country is today, thus non accountability, none performance and corrupt. How do you expect this Mafia cabal to give you space to be accountable for the alleged accusations they are leveling against you? True to Mafia style, they are now accusing you to have killed your own husband. They arm twisted you to voluntarily resign and get out of the way for ED Mnagagwa. The whole charade is all about protecting dear leader and his wife. They did not find you suitable to run to the cult true to the Zanu-PF way of vote rigging; patronage; non accountability; undemocratic; abuse of Zimbabwe forces to protect Zanu-PF and the God father, RG Mugabe. Above all they did not see you able to protect RG Mugabe's interest after his departure. The question is, do you still have the appetite for a fight? There is no more Solomon around to gang up with you against the Mafia.
