Chinamasa bunks post-budget seminar

HARARE - Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa infuriated legislators yesterday after bunking the post-budget seminar.

The lawmakers said in the absence of the minister, the annual seminar was turning out to be a mere talk show.

Patrick Chitaka, the MDC senator for Manicaland, said: “Where is the minister of Finance? He should be here so that he can understand the contributions coming from the private sector?

“Can we not seriously consider changing the format of these seminars?”

Chitaka was also supported by Zanu PF MP Irene Zindi.

The  plenary was led by legislators David Chapfika, chairperson of the parliament committee on Finance and Development and Paurina Mpariwa, chairperson of the Public Accounts committee.

Parliament had invited business leaders from the private sector to help legislators understand  the 2015 National Budget which was presented by Chinamasa last month before it can be passed in  arliament.

Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said in future they were going to change the way the seminar is held.

Mudenda said businesspeople should continue to make comments and offer viable solutions to the  executive rather than criticise without offering ideas on how to develop the economy.

Does he care any more? Eeven his boss doesnt care so who is Chinamasa to care? This is just the norm in Zanu PF, they are not under pressure they are in charge, so what? The majority suffers while they do as they wish so who in Zanu PF cares?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it the business leaders' duty from the private sector to "help legislators understand the 2015 national budget?" Shouldn't they have been consulted before the presentation for their input, this I know they should have. Do not blame Chinamasa for not attending, he is as clueless as most of those that sit on those benches claiming to be legislators. How was he to explain how two fish would feed multitudes, he is no miracle worker. He has explained before that without policy reforms our economy will never improve and I stand by him on that one.
