CAPS after Muparati, Sithole

HARARE - Barely a week after losing coach Taurai Mangwiro, CAPS United seem to have quickly moved on and are understood to be chasing the signature of the Dynamos pair of midfielder Tawanda Muparati and striker Simba Sithole.

The Green Machine were on Friday stunned after Mangwiro tendered his resignation, but that seems to have done little to stop Makepekepe from bolstering their squad for next season.

Mangwiro – who endured a turbulent season at the Green Machine with player strikes and a frosty relationship with a section of the club’s fans consistently frustrating his pursuit for silverware – is now believed to be frontrunner to take over at Dynamos.

Champions Dynamos are currently coach hunting after Calisto Pasuwa announced he will be leaving the club at the expiry of his contract this month.

With such names as Lloyd Chitembwe and Alois Bunjira already being thrown around as possible replacements for Mangwiro, the Green Machine are believed to have already made inquiries on the availability of 2013 Soccer Star of the Year Muparati alongside Sithole.

Sithole emerged onto the scene few seasons back as a free-scoring CAPS striker but has had to return to Zimbabwe twice to join United’s rivals Dynamos after failing to impress at Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United.

Muparati and Sithole are two of 10 players at Dynamos whose current contracts expire at the end of the season.

The Glamour Boys executive is understood to be reluctant to extend their contracts until a new coach is appointed.

Muparati, who captained Dynamos to the title in 2013, had a rather quiet season in the just-ended Castle Premiership term due to nagging injury.

Sithole was also relatively ineffective by his own standards, suffering from poor form during the season.

Sources in the Green Machine camp told the Daily News yesterday that negotiations are already in progress with the two players, although the final decision rests on whether the new DeMbare gaffer will be interest in retaining their services.

On the other hand, Dynamos are also believed to be closing in on the services of the CAPS United duo of Dominic Chungwa and Kelvin Bulaji.
