Young Danielle in against the best

HARARE - Danielle Bekker, Zimbabwe’s 11-year-old golf sensation, faces a daunting task to leave a mark against hundreds of young golfers from across the world that will converge in Johor Baru, Malaysia, for the Kids Golf World Championship.

At least 363 young golfers from 19 countries will participate in the Championship from Monday to Friday.

Bekker, who plays off a 10-handicap, will be Zimbabwe’s sole representatives at the event.

The Chapman Golf Club-based golfer will fancy her chances of shooting some low scores given her current form.

Apart from being named the 2013 Female Junior Golfer of the Year at the inaugural Zimbabwe Golf Awards in June this year, Bekker came second in the European Championships in May 2014.

She also won the SA Kids Junior Africa Challenge title at the Zebula Golf Estates in September.

However, against an illustrious cast of some of the world’s top emerging golfers, she will certainly need to punch above her weight.

The youngsters will be pitching their skills against each other across 15 age groups in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

The tournament offers prizes for boys in eight categories and girls in seven categories.
