Ngezi lift Yadah TV Cup

HARARE - World Navi Northern Region Division One Soccer League side Ngezi Platinum were crowned the champions of the inaugural Yadah TV Cup after beating Mushowani 3-2 in extra time here yesterday.

Ngezi Platinum scored through Enasio Peresu, Terrance Dzukumanja and Carlosi Messi while Mushowani got their goals from Gift Mufutumare and Idilisa Kaponda .

Ngezi Platinum coach Clifton Kadurira was delighted with the win and praised his players for a fantastic performance.

“I’m very happy to win this Cup, I give credit to the boys; they did very well today especially our strikers who got the goals today,” he said.

“I’m happy with the way we played. I felt we won the game in the midfield where we stuck with our game plan of passing. This is my first silverware in my coaching career and I will cherish it for the rest of my life.

“My players played according to instructions and everyone in the team put maximum effort for us to win today and I think winning this Cup is the start of better things to come in the next game.”

His opposite number Paul “Popopo” Chimalizeni bemoaned the missed chances by his forwards.

“I think we did not play our normal game today, we were not aggressive and it is very disappointing to lose the Cup,” said the former Lengthens coach.

Ngezi Platinum started the match the better side and scored their first goal 15 minutes into the match after Peresu received a crossed from right flank before scoring with a low shot.

After the goal, Ngezi Platinum continued to dominate the match but failed to turn their dominance into more goals.

After the breather, Mushowani had the upper hand and duly equalised in 15 minutes from time after Mafutumare headed in a Dean Muchakwa cross.

Three minutes later, Ngezi Platinum were back in the lead after Dzikumanja scored just outside the box.

Mushowani were, however, giving up easily as they were awarded a penalty after goalmouth scramble inside the box.

Kaponda coolly slotted the spot kick to equalise for Mashonaland Central side and to take the match into extra-time.

Ngezi Platinum regained control of the game and were awarded a penalty of their own when a Mushowani defender Tellmore Sasa handled inside the box.

Messi made no mistake from the spot and Ngezi Platinum were able to hold on for the win.
