Mash West exec in bid to recall Shamu

HARARE - Zanu PF’s Mashonaland West provincial executive has petitioned the politburo to block national political commissar Webster Shamu and minister of State in the office of Vice-President Sylvester Nguni from getting central committee posts.

Shamu and Nguni won the right to represent Chegutu but the provincial leadership said the two politicians could not be in the central committee because they have been accused of plotting to oust president Robert Mugabe.

Maverick businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, who got a central committee nomination from Makonde District, delivered the petition to acting provincial chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi in Chinhoyi yesterday.

The petition was handed in the presence of placard-waving youths and war veterans who had marched across Chinhoyi denouncing the two.

Chiyangwa told the vociferous demonstrators that the province was recalling the two senior members because they are key allies of Mujuru.

“We have resolved that Shamu and Nguni cannot be Central Committee members because they are part of the Gamatox team and they cannot represent us,” he said.

“We have about six names of people who must be recalled but for today we are handing over this petition with Shamu and Nguni’s name. We will deal with others soon because we don’t want any Gamatox in the president’s home province.”

After receiving the petition, Ziyambi vowed to weed out all senior party members linked with the Mujuru faction in the province.

“Thank you, I have received the petition and l will deliver it to the politburo,” he said.

“But let me say all those who do not want to say pasi neGamatox have no place here.”

“This is the president’s home province and there is no way we can tolerate and accommodate people who want him out of power. How do we work with people who want to assassinate the president? They should go.”

Mashonaland West youth league chairman Vengesai Musengi said all “sell outs” should be fired from the party.

“We no longer want sell outs in the party,” he said. “Shamu was a sell out during the armed struggle and we no longer want him in the province. Shamu and Nguni have shares in all companies in the province and they are protecting white famers. Their time is up.”

The demonstrators carried placards inscribed Shamu dzosa mari yawaitambira kuZBC, Lamborne Farm dzosera W.K Shamu, Dzorera mota yeZBC, Shamu waitengesa kubvakuhondo, Siya kupfimba vana vechikoro,  Shamu and Nguni murivana veGamatox endai kuDotito.
