ZBC suspends Mandizvidza, Chiweshe

HARARE - Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has suspended acting chief executive officer Allan Chiweshe and general manager news and current affairs Tazzen Mandizvidza.

The suspensions are part of disciplinary proceedings being instituted against suspended chief executive officer Happison Muchechetere and four members of his top executive management, over acts of misconduct, which prejudiced the State broadcaster of over $7 million.

Acting head of finance and corporate services Patrick Mavhura has been appointed acting chief executive officer. The head of radio services Chris Chivinge has been appointed acting general manager news and current affairs, with immediate effect.

The ZBC board has set up a hearing tribunal chaired by retired judge James de Vitte.

The board has also engaged the services of a legal team from Scanlen and Holderness to handle the proceedings on its behalf.

In a statement, ZBC board chairman Father Gibson Munyoro said Chiweshe and Mandizvidza, have been suspended as part of the probe.

This follows the finalisation of a forensic audit report by KPMG Chartered Accountants which revealed that Muchechetere allegedly profited in excess of $3,5 million through abuse of office from January 1, 2009 until December 31, 2013.

Father Munyoro said Muchechetere was a collusive leader and partner in the fraud and said all those who will be found wanting will be brought to account.

Suspended general manager finance Eliot Kasu, Mandizvidza, Chiweshe and suspended head finance Ralph Nyambudzi will also appear before the disciplinary committee.
