Xaba not coming back soon

HARARE - Tavonga Mafundikwa, the co-ordinator of the Let’s Help Pretty Xaba Campaign, says former Studio 263 actress Pretty Xaba who is currently in India for cancer treatment will not be coming home anytime soon.

Xaba was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in September and is being treated at the BLK Super Speciality Hospital in New Dehli.

She flew to India in mid October for the surgery which was, however, delayed after the doctors observed that the tumour had grown bigger.

“They placed her under chemotherapy and radiotherapy to prepare her for the surgery. She is recovering well but I fear that her budget might be exhausted due to the prolonged stay,” Mafundikwa told the Daily News.

“We had anticipated that she would be in India for a month because we thought she would go through surgery right away and chances are that the budget will be affected.”

Last Friday, a local company that facilitated Xaba’s flight to India, Stark Meditrip hosted a small birthday party for her. The company, which has offices in India and the United Kingdom, specialises in arranging medical treatments for Zimbabweans in the two countries.

Mafundikwa confirmed that Stark Meditrip had facilitated Xaba’s trip to India.

“When we were looking to fly her (Xaba) down to India, we came across these guys (Stark Meditrip) and they linked us up with hospitals in India. The company then ensured that she was well taken care of while in India and continues to do so,” he added.

“Her last session will be on 26 November before she takes a rest in preparation for the surgery. But we don’t know when the surgery will take place because the rest can be between three and four weeks so she’s not coming back anytime soon.”
