BULAWAYO - Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC), Eradicators and Hippo Valley are aiming to leave an indelible mark at the 2014 edition of the Africa Cup of Club Champions at Khumalo Hockey Stadium in Bulawayo.

The event, which will attract some of the top hockey clubs on the continent, will run from November 22 to 30 in Bulawayo.

A record 20 teams from seven countries have confirmed participation and will battle for honours during the tournament, which will run for nine days.

The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe (Haz) and the Local Organizing Committee said they were ready to host the tournament in a press statement yesterday.

“All the officials’ appointments by Africa Hockey Federation (AfHF) have been concluded. The Tournament Director and Umpire’s Manager are both from South Africa whilst all the Zimbabwean contingent of officials nominated have been appointed to officiate at the tournament,” read the statement.

“Ginny Ross will be the AFHF’s representative, Sarah Bennett and Humphrey Chigwedere will be technical officers, Tafara Mukaro and Pauline Ndhlovu will be judges while Tapiwa Mafi, Bynn Lowe and Sharne Meyers will be umpires. All other nations are supposed to supply officials.”

50 matches will be played in the tournament.

Both men and women have been drawn into two pools, with the classification matches set to be played on November 30.

Zimbabwe will be represented by Harare’s Eradicators and Hippo Valley Hockey Club of Masvingo in the men’s category.

In the women’s section, the country will be represented by Bulawayo Athletic Club.
