Chicken Inn beat Buffaloes

HARARE - Chicken Inn secured their status as a Castle Lager Premiership team for next season after they defeated Buffaloes here yesterday to move onto 44 points.

With the win, Joey Antipas men, who were flirting with the drop now moved onto fifth place with one game to go before the season ends.

As for Buffaloes, they remain in ninth place with 36 points and could find themselves in the relegation zone if other results go against them this afternoon.

After a dull first half, the game came to life just after the break when Thabani Goredema produced a lovely finish inside the box after he was set up by Thomas Chimenya.

The home side began to play with a high tempo and were duly rewarded with a second goal after 71 minutes when  Divine Lunga headed in a George Majika corner kick.

After the match Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas was happy with the three points.

“The guys did a good job, we started slow in the first half but we managed to up the tempo in the second half. It’s a solid performance, am happy with the three points,” Antipas said.

Buffaloes coach Moses Chunga said: “We have chances to survive relegation and all we need is a positive result against Hwange. Today we did not play well. We were not mentally prepared. We are having challenges we are facing as a team but we need to overcome them within a week in order to survive relegation.”
