Zanu PF thug gets 20 years for murder

HARARE - A Zanu PF Kadoma youth member and thug, Stabiliser Kadafi, believed to be the brains behind a 2008 politically-motivated murder of an opposition party activist has been jailed for 20 years.

Kadafi, also known as Chuck Norris was accused of murdering John Max, whom he labelled a “political sell-out”.

High Court judge Esther Muremba found him guilty on the charges, before passing the jail term.

Kadafi was at some point a fugitive from justice, which led to his co-accused being tried in his absence.

He disappeared after Max’s fatal attack, which occurred in August, 2008 and was only apprehended recently, leading to his court appearance.

His co-accused are Nobert Muzhingi, Thabani Mashonganyika, Sikhumbuzo Madhuveko and Mangisi Mutandavari. They were each jailed for 15 years by High Court Judge Felistas Chatukuta.

According to State papers, Max died due to serious injuries he sustained after being attacked by the group. The court heard that the group was staying at Buffalo and Tiger Mine in Kadoma during the time they committed the offence.

On the fateful day, the group took Max to a nearby bush at the mine, at Kadafi’s insistence.

Max was made to lie down as the group attacked him all over his body using switches.

“They accused him of being a political sell-out and being a State witness in an assault case against them during the presidential run-off elections.

“After assaulting him, the accused (Kadafi) ordered that the deceased (Max) immediately vacate his residence and he ordered patrons at the beer-hall to converge at the deceased’s residence to effect eviction,” reads part of the court papers.

In his defence outline, Kadafi denied ever getting involved in Max’s death.

He said Muzhingi, Mashonganyika, Strive Majabhiya and Norman Sande were the culprits in the murder case.

Kadafi said when he arrived, he saw his co-suspects assaulting Max and ordered them to stop.

He said his co-accused claimed Max had stolen their gold ore. He denied ever participating in the assault which led to Max’s death.

Mr Tomana is quite right. Death penalty should be upheld. Why these culprits not given death penalties. They committed the crime intentionally and they were also supose to die so that the would be offenders will learn. There is no JUSTICE our president. How can a compitant judge not pass a death penalty on this. Its sad
