Murambatsvina victim: Cde Chinx

HARARE - Liberation war musician Dick “Comrade Chinx” Chingaira has denied that his house was razed during Operation Murambatsvina in 2005.

The veteran musician, who was recently presented with a four-bedroomed house in Mabelreign by the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima), said his name was mischievously linked to the exercise which displaced over a million people.

“To the contrary I did not have a house in Kambuzuma. What happened is that these bad guys just created a rumour and it flourished and it was all over the media, Internet and social networks,” said Chinx.

“Almost everyone was talking about it. They were saying Chinx had shot down a helicopter, his house has been destroyed, when I was actually drinking beer in some bar (on the said day). I was actually asking for a nice cold Pilsener.”

Comrade Chinx said the house he has just been given by Zima is a fitting reward for his role in the liberation struggle.

“I fought the settler whites coming from the bush. I went back to the rural areas after independence. Then I moved to the high density suburbs and I am happy because that is where I have been all along.

“This (Mabelreign house) is a big promotion for me. I have come to the low density areas or as others say, tave kuma dale dale,” he said.I am not a
