Can ZPC do the unthinkable?

HARARE - Hitting your stride again is a bit of a challenge after a month-long break from the desk, but there is no greater stimulus than being greeted back with one of the most thrilling title race in recent seasons.

The drama that has unfolded in the last few weeks of the Castle Premiership has brought twists and turns to the title race – with Dynamos and surprise package ZPC Kariba meeting in a blockbuster tie tomorrow that many have branded the title decider.

With two remaining games for front runners Dynamos and ZPC Kariba and a single point separating the two, Dynamos will be crowned champions for the fourth time in succession if they win on Saturday.

For ZPC, a win will leave them on the brink of a remarkable title for a team in its first season of top-flight football – but still with all to do in their final game against a CAPS United side desperate for a positive end to the season.

Lately, Dynamos have been unconvincing in defence of their title, but remarkably, still find themselves atop and one might say – favourites.

The Glamour Boys can still go all the way, but this will almost certainly be the worst Dynamos team, in the four years, to win the league.

Given the scenario, to a neutral observer, ZPC probably deserve it more, if the football gods be just.

If that happens, it won’t be more than ZPC deserve, really. They have gone about their season with quiet dignity, discipline and consistence.

They have showed their attacking brilliance, resilience and enjoyed a little good fortune to take points in games they haven’t been on top of their game.

It's one of the best finishes in recent seasons and a strong statement to those who said that Zimbabwe’s league was predictable.

Even if they don’t win it, ZPC have done what few expected - they've challenged the status quo and refused to be intimidated.

They will never have a better chance to make history.
