'Cara is a wizard'

HARARE - The 'First Lady' of Indian tennis, Sania Mirza has showered Cara Black with praise describing her as wizard at the net following their fruitful relationship that came to an end on Sunday.

The doubles partners decorated their partnership with the prestigious year-ending WTA Tour Finals doubles title in Singapore to end the season in remarkable fashion.

That win saw the doubles pair rise to World No. 3 in latest WTA Doubles rankings, albeit in their last match together.

The combination will break up at the end of the season, with the globetrotting tennis ace opting to have more time with her husband and her two-year-old blonde haired baby boy Lachlan.

“Cara is a very close friend. In fact, she is like an elder sister to me. Her son is absolutely adorable. The little one is too cute. He's my favourite!” Mirza told Indian press this week.

The 27-year-old tennis star said trust was their reason for success.

“We complement each other perfectly on court. I have my ground strokes and Cara is superb at the net. Of course, we have a lot of variations as well. But above all, it is the amazing trust that we have in each other that has seen us through some difficult moments on court throughout this year.”

Mirza added that she did not try to convince the 35-year-old Zimbabwe tennis idol to change her mind.

“No, I respect her sentiments and support her in whatever she plans for herself. As professional tennis players, we need to take some tough decisions and I have to accept change.”

With the pair splitting, Sania will pair with Chinese Taipei's Su-Wei Hseih in the 2015 season.
