Pro-Mnangagwa youth chairman kicked out

HARARE - Zanu PF Mashonaland West youth league has fired its chairman Vengesai Musengi for theft and misappropriation of funds.

Musengi was part of the so-called “Famous 7” youth league chairpersons who accompanied First Lady Grace Mugabe on her “Meet the People” rallies.

The group is credited for popularising the “Pasi neGamatox” slogan which has since been banned by the party’s politburo.

In an October 28 letter to Didymus Mutasa, the Zanu PF secretary for administration, Jackson Chizanga, the Mashonaland West youth league political commissar, called upon the politburo to accept the proposed suspension of Musengi — believed to be a loyalist of the Emmerson Mnangagwa faction.

“Whilst his suspension from the provincial executive council, which is chaired by Temba Mliswa was uplifted after a directive from politburo, we appeal to have the vote of no confidence made against Musengi and Joseph Nyariri by the provincial youth league executive, as the appropriate organ, upheld as this was not part of the politburo’s directive,” Chizanga said.

The pair stand accused of embezzlement of funds and theft.

“The allegations contained in the petition are of a very grave and serious nature and involve theft, misappropriation of funds, embezzlement, misrepresentation, incitement and dishonesty,” Chizanga said.

“So severe in nature are some of the cases for example the Pickstone Mine matter, that they warrant a full investigation to be carried out.”

Chizanga claimed that appropriate channels were followed in arriving at the decision to boot out Musengi.

“The procedure used to remove the above from office was partaken in a procedural and constitutional manner that was above board,” he said.

Mashonaland West has been rocked by infighting which has seen former chairperson Mliswa being booted out.
