Fifa property safe – Dube

HARARE - Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) president Cuthbert Dube has assured Fifa that none of its properties donated to the country’s football governing association will be attached to service debts.

Zifa has been under fire from creditors with the Deputy Sherriff attaching properties ranging from Fifa Transfer Management System (TMS) software installed computer, printers, desks, telephone headsets and football kits.

The Deputy Sherriff has been in overdrive also attaching a deep freezer, a tractor, water tanks, artificial turf, sleeping beds and conference chairs all items donated by world football governing body.

Speaking during a press conference at Zifa Village, Dube said they had made legal interjections to ensure that all items donated by Fifa will not go under the hammer.

“There were some of properties that were donated to Zifa by Fifa that were attached. So we then went through the legal system and told them that ‘the stuff that you attached does not belong to Zifa it belongs to Zifa private limited it belongs to Fifa’.

“So through our legal advisors there were interpleaders that went to the Deputy Sherriff. So that stuff that was attached it is not going to be affected. So we are all very safe,” Dube said.

Fifa Development Programmes Africa senior manager Zelkifli Ngoufonja said it was sad that Zimbabwe was stuck in financial quagmire at the expense of developing football in the country.

The Fifa delegation was in the country assessing the risks to the projects whilst meeting with creditors and law firms to understand the best way to assist the cash strapped Zifa.

“What is important is that in the end Zimbabwe people benefit from all these properties. It’s not assets that belong to individuals,” said the Cameroonian.

“What we don’t want is that tomorrow we come here and we cannot asses these properties and Zimbabwean people cannot asses these assets because someone has claimed it for themselves.

“That is not the reason Fifa invests in country’s…. But we are confident that in the end the assets will be Zimbabwean assets not individual’s assets.”
