Nyarumwe, Mulauzi win pool titles

ZVISHAVANE - Obert Nyarumwe and Someya Mulauzi were on Saturday crowned the champions of this year’s Carling Black Label National Pool finals in the men and women’s category in Zvishavane respectively.

The Chitungwiza-based Nyarumwe beat Paul Mutize from Bulawayo 2-0 in the finals to win this year’s title.

For his efforts Nyarumwe walked away with $1 000 while women champion Mulauzi went home smiling after she received $500.

Fungayi Nzombe, the National Pool Association (NPA) secretary for development, said the tournament was a success.

“The event went on well, the tables were okay, we did not encounter any major problems at the event,” Nzombe told the Daily News.

“We want to congratulate the winners and also want to thank our sponsors for their support which will go a long way in the development of pool in our country.”

Nzombe believes the sport is starting to be recognised as a sport in various corners of the country.

“I am very happy the game is growing, if you look at the just-ended tournament — we had participants from all corners of the country which is good for us,” Nzombe said.

Patricia Murambinda, the Delta Beverages marketing manager, believes their marriage with the NPA has afforded local players with a chance to showcase their talent.

“The marriage between the two partners dates back to 9 years ago and each year has seen the tournament getting more organised and growing from strength to strength,” Murambinda said before the event.

“It is a win-win game for the Carling Black Label drinkers as they enjoy big value for their money and entertainment. It is a smart source of income for quality players.”
