Mabvuku win Old Mutual Sevens

HARARE - Mabvuku's age grade rugby teams yesterday won the Old Mutual Community Sevens tournament which was played at Harare Sports Club.

The sevens tournament which was the last one for the year was characterised by an excellent display of talent by the youngsters that thronged the home of rugby in Harare.

Tournament coordinator and specialist development coach Checks Urayayi was impressed by the talent on show at the tournament.

"The country is blessed to have such vast talent at its disposal. The sponsors have helped us realize that we are actually a rich country when it comes to the amount of talented young rugby players from these previously marginalised areas. Our future is bright to say the least" said Urayayi told the Zimbabwe Rugby Union website.

Old Mutual and ZRU are in talks to extend the exciting partnership worth $90 000 that has been in existence for a year.

Tournament organisers that included former ZRU Director of Rugby Liam Middleton had the tough task of naming the tournament's best players and they settled for Lesbon Matanhira the Mabvuku Under-14 centre while for the Under-16 Victor Muchucho from Seke claimed honours.

Mabvuku's Noah Ruzvidzo was named Under-18 player of the tournament.
