Harare hosts Under-15 tourney

HARARE - The Harare Province Junior League Under-15 football tournament finals roar into life this afternoon at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield.

Some of the teams who are set to fight for the honours include Aces Youth Academy, Gunners, CAPS United and Maningi.

Harare Province Junior League chairman Onias Kadewere said they are ready to host the event.

“We are looking to have 22 teams at this event. We have done our preparations and I think all teams are now ready for the event,” Kadewere told the Daily News yesterday.

“This is an important event for junior football players because they will learn new football skills.

“The aim of holding these tournaments is to teach youngsters while they are still young, for them to understand the rules of the game and to promote the spirit of competition in young footballers.

“This is a good platform to build a strong foundation for our future national teams. Also our aim is to tackle the issue of age-cheating.

“It is sad to note that cases of age-cheating continue to sprout in our game, some players had to be suspended for that.

Kadewere however, bemoaned lack of sponsorship.

“We have no sponsors, we are appealing to the cooperate world to come and support this noble idea of developing junior football in our country,” he added.
