Airzim seeks new insurer, finance exec

HARARE - National airline Air Zimbabwe (Airzim) plans to engage a new insurer for its aeroplanes following a fall-out with Navistar Insurance Brokers (Private) Limited (Navistar).

This comes as former Air Zimbabwe bosses, Grace Pfumbidzayi and Innocent Mavhunga, are currently embroiled in an alleged insurance scam where they are accused of defrauding the airline of €5 175 593 and $502 748 paid between April 2009 and April 2013 to Navistar.

It is alleged Navistar was enlisted to provide aviation and insurance cover, without going to tender, while services of other existing companies were terminated.

Airzim also plans to recruit a finance general manager, expected to develop appropriate business strategies that promote growth and maximising profitability among other responsibilities.

The latest development comes at a time when the national airline is crafting a turnaround strategy that involves the purchase of modern aircraft to replace its ageing fleet.
