Six fans off to Barcelona

HARARE - Six Zimbabweans are set to leave for Spain this afternoon to watch European football giants Barcelona in action courtesy of Delta Beverages through their brand Castle Lager.

The sextet all were the lucky winners of the of the Castle Lager World Cup Big Cheer Soccer Carnival promotion than ran from June 3 to September 12.

The six, Tarisai Gumindoga, Gibson Ncube, Paradzai Ziuchi, Peter Feranando, Norman Mutata and Noreen Chiguyo, will all travel to Catalunya for an all expenses trip to watch Barcelona take on newly promoted Spanish Primera Liga side Eibar at the Camp Nou on Saturday evening.

The locals will get to see the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar, Dani Alves, Ivan Rakitic, Xavi Henandez and Andres Iniesta in action.

Luis Enrique’s men are currently enjoying a fine start to their La Liga campaign as they have won six of the seven matches they have played so far and lead the log standings two points ahead of Valencia.

A chance to visit the iconic Camp Nou is also an unforgatable experience on its own as the stadium is one of the best venues in Europe which has also staged some memorable battles between Barcelona and their great rivals Real Madrid.

Munyaradzi Nyandoro, the Delta Beverages general manager (lagers), said they were happy with their relationship with Zimbabwe football in general.

“I want to congratulate the winners of the World Cup Big Cheer Carnival promotion,” Nyandoro said at a send of ceremony held yesterday. 

“Soccer remains one of the passions of our consumers so we saw it fit to have this promotion. As the official partners of FC Barcelona we are happy to have this draw and we are hopeful that the winners are going to enjoy themselves.

"FC Barcelona are the official partners of Castle Lager in Africa and we wish the winners all the best when they attend the matches.

“We support a number of football programs in Zimbabwe include the sponsorship. I want to thank the consumers for their support we are here because of consumers they are the one who buy our products for us to finance all football programs.

“These programs are there to bring out excitement to our valued customers.”

Delta Beverages are the official sponsors of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League through their brand Castle Lager as well since 2011.

At the start of this year, the beverages manufacturer renewed their partnership with the PSL for another three years.

The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange-listed company pours in at least $700 000 per season into the Castle Premiership for the duration of the new deal.   

On top of that, Delta also introduced a new knockout tournament for all the 16 PSL teams – the Chibuku Super Cup – which is bankrolled to the tune of $500 000.

The Chibuku Super Cup is now at the semi-final stage which will be staged this weekend with FC Platinum set to take on Black Rhinos on Saturday at Rufaro Stadium while Highlanders clash with Harare City the following day.     

Gibson Ncube, who also won a Plasma television set during the promotion, could not hide his excitement of travelling to Cataluna for a chance to see some of the best players in world football.

“I am very happy this is a good opportunity for us to watch the world’s number one team Barcelona playing,” he said.

“We want to thank Delta Beverages for this and we want to say to them keep on maintaining your perfect standards.”
