Moyo's desperate spin

HARARE - We feel for Information minister Jonathan Moyo as he scrambles to try and undo the political and public relations disaster that First Lady Grace Mugabe’s “Meet the People” tour around the country has become.

Our sympathy for the indefatigable minister emanates from the fact that his endeavours look doomed to fail because the First Lady is an accident waiting to happen each time she gets a microphone on the big stage.

For those readers who may not know what we are on about, Moyo criticised independent newspapers on Tuesday for correctly capturing the fact that Grace had once again savaged Vice President Joice Mujuru and her supporters at the First Lady’s rally in Gwanda on Monday.

Well tried Prof., but you are wrong.

It is very revealing that Moyo, who speaks for the government, now feels moved to defend Grace, and attempts to clarify her thoughts, when the function where she was allegedly misinterpreted was overtly a Zanu PF one.

Ordinarily, one expects this clean-up job to come from veteran party spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo.

Secondly, it is worth noting that while Moyo is attempting to do this baby-sitting, Grace herself is doing absolutely nothing to clear any unwitting confusion that may have arisen from her utterances.

Indeed, Grace is still touring and has had more than ample opportunity, as she continues to “Meet the People”, to say that she is not fighting Mujuru. She has, very revealingly, not done this thus far.

Thirdly, and very importantly, this is not the first time that Grace has cast aspersions on Mujuru and her supporters. She has done so very pointedly in Masvingo, Harare and Mutare — which exposes the lie that she may have been misquoted in Gwanda.

So, to give Grace and Moyo the benefit of the doubt, what did the First Lady say in Gwanda?

Here, we quote what Moyo himself and the lapdog State media say Grace said in Gwanda in Shona: “Vamwe nokuti ndakataura kuti vanhu vakajaira kuberekwa kumusana kwaPresident, vamwe vanongofunga kuti kungonoita Vice President kunongonzi ndiri Vice President ndakangogara muoffice VaMugabe vachingondishandira. Hatichadi izvozvo, we want people who are capable. Hatidi! Hatidi! Hatisikuda munhu anove liability isu. Hatimude!”.

For readers who may not be conversant in Shona, one of the give-away lines is where Grace says, “Hatichadi izvozvo (we no longer want that), we want people who are capable”.

So, what or who is it indeed that Grace and her supporters no longer want?

We rest our case.

Thank God that Mujuru herself has adopted a stoic and commendable attitude to all these unprovoked attacks on her, appropriately choosing to keep her counsel.

For had Mujuru also dived in, feet first, as the First Lady is doing, the country could already be dealing with a political crisis of unimaginable proportions given that the warring Zanu PF factions are already engaged in violent activities.

Jonathan Moyo is attempting some damage limitation here. Pure lies. Jonathan Moyo is Ndebele and Grace has been speaking in Zezuru and it is Moyo whose interpretation of Grace's Zezuru rants which is wrong. What is the point of the rallies when nobody except Jonathan Moyo and Grace are the only ones who understand what she is saying or what she means? Why would she lecture anyone about how a Vice-President must perform when she was never an official Vice-President or President herself? This is something all of us do on a daily basis. People would rather listen to an ex-Vice-President or incumbent Vice-President telling them about her experiences. Like a typical bootlicker, Jonathan Moyo, says Grace, the boss' wife is always right and everyone else is wrong - singing sweetly for his supper. Mugabe's own performance has been appalling and she has not said anything about it. She talks of the economic malaise as if Mugabe has just down from Mars when it is his fault that the economy is a mess. The ordinary folk have no say in who becomes Vice-President so why was she telling the people about the duties of a Vice-President? What did she want the crowd to do about it? The wrong person addressing the wrong crowd over a wrong subject which she knows nothing about.

Unfortunately, prof Moyo is trying to defend the impossible. It is very clear,Grace's attack was directed at mai Mujuru. Grace gave very careless speeches throughout her rallies. It is a fact some women walked out on her in frustration at one of her rallies in Matebeleland. In Mutare,Dydmus Mutasa was also verbally attacked.

GODOBORI - 16 October 2014

Enough of ZANU PF infighting! People have always cried for food on the table not this foolish diversion of attention from our suffering emanating from gvt's clear failure to turn around the economy of the country.

Grace told other women that they should not be fooled by men who tell them that they are good at this and that only to dump them when the men achieve their goals. She was right because as it stands now Jonso is saying Grace is right .In today 's herald he is saying people should not complain about the " doctorate awarded to Grace" because she did not award herself the degree. But the question is , Does the nutty Professor think that Grace really studied for it and hence deserves to be called Dr Grace Mugabe. We all know why the Professor is in the government. He is there to work for the Mugabes and clean their mess in order to get another appointment because on his own he can not win an election.Or could he be using Grace in order to dump her later?

Dailynews, my question is, why did you not " tell it like it is" as per your motto. There is no mention of Mai Mujuru in the statement you attribute to Dr Mugabe. Dont spoon feed us, we are capable of making our own deductions. Tell us like it is as per your motto.

Yes, to conclude that airebwa ndi Joyce Runaida Mujuru na Amai is being nuisance and mischievous. We are grown ups who have the capability to read between the lines. Mujuru is a NO event even if she becomes President or vice in future. Woman kingdom is a SIGN of doom. God does not want the roles of man and women to be interchanged. So, I want Mujuru to get out of politics before she follows her husband soon.

My Voice - 16 October 2014

When you hear the office of the vice presidency being attacked in a country with one Vice President called Mujuru, is it not as clear as daylight to see who the insults are directed at? What is the point therefore for Grace to spew unnecessary rhetoric only for the Minister of Information to interpret to the nation afterwards what she actually meant to say. All this for a 'Doctor' in Philosophy who claims to be a Zulu speaker and yet cannot even utter one word in Ndebele! I said it before and I will say it again, somebody needs to intervene and prepare speeches for her and save her party and her position as the First Lady a lot of unnecessary embarrassment.

I now realize that Moyo is intelligent more than all media institutions and political parties in Zimbabwe are combined. He is sarcastically defending Grace so that the debate will flood in all beerhalls and public schools. the more the citizens talk about Grace and Mujuru, the more the Mujuru Faction will be polarized to the first family, hence weakening the Mujuru Faction. it needs the very few naturally intelligent people like me to read all Moyo's tricks not you poor journalists

My sincere congratulations to Mai Mujuru for not stooping so low as to even answer to the horrendous provocation she has been subjected to by this rabid woman. PhD behaviour indeed! Keep it up Mai Mujuru, give Grace a very long rope and she will surely hang herself. The majority of Zimbos are on your side.WCR
