No reprieve for Zifa

HARARE - The Zimbabwe Football Association’s (Zifa) was last night making frantic attempts to stop the Deputy Sherriff from attaching the association’s property over a debt owed to former employee Nicky Dhlamini-Moyo.

For the past two weeks, the Deputy Sherriff has been attaching property belonging to Zifa after Dhlamini-Moyo won her Labour Court case against the association.

The ex-Zifa communications manager, who was sacked in 2012, was awarded an $88 000 payout for her outstanding salaries and allowances.

At the Zifa Village in Mt Hampden, the Deputy Sherriff attached desks, beds, a tractor, goalposts, artificial turf and a refrigerator.

Last Saturday, the court officials also pounced at the Zifa headquarters at 53 Livingstone Avenue where they again attached desks, telephone headsets, football kits and the computer installed with the Fifa Transfer Management System.

Yesterday, Zifa’e legal advisor Ralph Maganga met with Dhlamini-Moyo’s legal representatives from Musoni Masasire Law Chambers t propose a payment plan to delay the auctioning of the attached goods.

“We haven’t agreed as yet. There are still some issues which needs clarification. As things stands the Deputy Sherriff will go ahead as planned,” said Dhlamini-Moyo’s lawyers yesterday.

However, Maganga was singing a different tune last night.

“We have agreed in principal with Nicky’s (Dhlamini-Moyo) lawyers that they stop removing the property from Zifa,” Maganga told the Daily News last night.

“What has been agreed upon cannot be made public for now; it’s delicate. Zifa have already signed the document and we are still waiting for the other part to sign, so the content of the document remains confidential.

“I am sure they will sign the document tomorrow morning (today) after consulting with their client. I believe from what we have agreed the property will not be removed from Zifa.”

Zifa are desperate for the items not to be auctioned as they will severely affect the association’s day-to-day functions.
