Bowling tourney in full swing

HARARE - The Zimbabwe October Five’s bowling tournament started on a good note yesterday with 16 teams consisting of five players battling out at the Harare City Bowling Club. The first day of the three-day annual tournament saw Craven of Highlands finish in first place followed by Davis of Harare in second place.

Harare Bowling Club manager Joyce Kachale said: “The event started well and the turnout was excellent and many people have come to support the sport. We want to extend our thanks to those companies which are sponsoring various bowlers; companies such as NSSA, Cyclone Industrial and Wedge to mention but a few.”

This year the tournament also sees a team from Thailand also taking part in the event.

Coco Bowling Club team captain Ian Mckissock said they were delighted to be in the country after they finished in 12th place yesterday.

“The tournament has been organised superbly and so far unfortunately we won two out of three levels and lost another set 6-4 and I’m happy for the team that we are doing well,” said Mckissock.

“Next year this tournament will be a regular event for us. For this year I don’t think we are going to emerge winners but eight points is good for a start.

“We are happy to compete and the hosts have home advantage because they are used to their greens.”
