Indiscipline rocks Bosso

BULAWAYO - Drinking the night before games, rampant drug abuse and sex orgies by players has become the order of the day at Highlanders, the Daily News has learnt.

Highlanders Chief Executive Officer Ndumiso Gumede acknowledged receiving multiple reports from the Bosso fans on the behaviour of some of their players saying it was a cause of concern for the club.

“Yes we have received so many complaints from our fans and we are definitely looking into it. Some of these players are not being responsible,” Gumede said.

“They are always at these drinking places and it’s hard for the team manager Willard Khumalo to track them because they live in different places.

“We have disciplined some of the players before but we will stop at nothing to stop this rot if at all it’s there.

“Supporters are paying their hard earned money to come and watch them but it’s very much unfair for them to pay to watch someone who has a hangover.”

Gumede added: “Recently one of our new acquisitions failed to turn up for the reserve side match because he was drunk. Honestly these players must be serious and their detention for about 20 minutes on their match against ZPC Kariba must be a wakeup call for someone who thinks.”

A survey by the Daily News showed that the majority of the Highlanders players take alcohol a day before a game.

Some are usually seen at drinking places in and around the city centre doing binge drinking.

A month ago some Bosso players were accused of smoking marijuana at a Harare hotel when they had gone to play the TM Challenge Cup match against Dynamos.

Earlier on some players were suspended after they drank throughout their journey back to Bulawayo from an away match against Buffaloes in Mutare.

That development also led to the stripping off of the captain’s armband from Innocent Mapuranga and the suspension of Joel Ngodzo.

Elsewhere, midfielder Mthulusi Maphosa has also been making the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The Highlanders midfielder enforcer assaulted Amanda Mbuisa and her boyfriend Bongani Rabva accusing them of being a bad influence to his girlfriend.

The case is before Western Commonage Court where Maphosa’s judgment is set for today after he pleaded not guilty to magistrate Tancy Dube.

While speaking under oath during the trial, Maphosa claimed that Mbuisa had slept with almost all of his teammates at Highlanders.

The Bosso fans are accusing the players of being mercenaries who are only after money.

Jabulani Moyo a staunch Bosso fan said: “Right now even those who have played less than three games this season are living pretty. Come month end they get their salaries which are more than that of most civil servants. These players will never be serious.”
