Mbara rues missed chances

HARARE - Dynamos defender Augustine Mbara has rued a host of missed chances after his team’s defeat to Triangle in the One Wallet Cup final on Sunday.

The Glamour boys spurned several good opportunities in regulation time and they paid the price when a 10-man Triangle won the final 4-3 after penalties.

The Sugar Sugar Boys played the remainder of the match a man down after defender Jimmy Dzingai was sent off in the 70th minute but Dynamos could not make use of the extra man advantage.

In fact, Triangle went on to cause some anxious moments for DeMbare especially on the break led by man-of-the-match Cabby Kamhapa and the impressive pair of Hillary Bakacheza and veteran striker Felix Kuswatuka.

“The game itself, we did not play well but I thought we had the better chances,” Mbara told the Daily News.

“There was a slackness about us on occasions in attack and it came back to bite us. When you don’t take them you obviously run the risk of losing and that’s the way it worked out.

“We did not play well enough but we should still have scored given the number of chances we created.”

Mbara feels with Castle Premiership title chase set for home stretch, the Glamour Boys need to quickly forget the One Wallet Cup disappointment and set their sights on defending their title they won for the past three years.

The Harare giants have been enjoying good form in the league and sit at the top of the Castle Premiership table with only six matches left before the season ends.

The Calisto Pasuwa’s men have amassed 46 points from 24 matches.

“But as down and as low as we are we cannot stay down there because we have got massive games coming up. We have important games coming up and we need to be ready,” he said.

“We just need to stay focused; it’s not the end of the world. The defeat is now water under the bridge. Our focus should now be put on the title chase. I think that’s what is important for us now.”

DeMbare resume their league campaign with a tricky trip to Mutare to face Buffaloes at Sakubva Stadium this weekend.
