Show jumper Crockart strikes gold

HARARE - Zimbabwe's leading show jumper Charley Crockart showed nerves of steel on Saturday to emerge with gold from the FEI World Jumping Challenge Final in South Africa.

Up against the best, Crockart jumped a clear round in the fastest time to add another accolade to her career.

It was an eventful final that had to be decided on a four way jump off as all the riders had accumulated four penalties.

South Africa’s Rainer Korber was first to go aboard Shwaike Bogena. He went clear in 28 seconds.

Zimbabwe’s Crockart followed on Etoile du Noir owned by Franlaren Stud. She went clear in 26 seconds.

Next up was South Africa’s Alexa Stais on Anneli Drummond-Hey's Mesquite. She finished with 8 penalties.

Last to go was Dominican Republic’s Maria Brugal riding Gareth Neil's Trubadour.

Brugal rode a clear round in a fast time of 27 seconds to take silver medal.

“What an exciting and fast jump-off,” Crockart described the final.

“My little horse was amazing and did not knock a pole the whole week. Thank you to franlaren stud for the ride on such a fun horse and all the organisers, competitors, Dominey Alexander, my zim supporters And of course my amazing mom.”

Crockart had qualified for the final after coming in third in the semi-finals.
