Mugabe must fire plotters

HARARE - If President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace, is correct that senior Zanu PF officials are plotting relentlessly in dark corners to oust her long-ruling nonagenarian husband, then our national leader, his party and Zimbabwe as a whole, all face seemingly insurmountable problems to clear if our country is ever to come right again.

Indeed, if her observations are on the mark, and we have no reason to doubt her at all, it means that there is absolutely no hope in hell that Mugabe and Zanu PF can ever resolve Zimbabwe’s worsening political and economic problems.  Ever.

For those readers who missed yesterday’s edition of the Daily News and may therefore not know fully what we are talking about here, the First Lady addressed her supporters FROM P1

in Chinhoyi on Thursday, and claimed, pointedly and in broad daylight, that some notable top party officials were leaving no stone unturned in their quest to get rid of her husband on the grounds that he was now too old to continue leading Zanu PF and the country.

“We have been hearing that some people have been leading factions for a long time and now we hear that they are receiving money from the US to remove President Robert Mugabe.

“We see them dancing kongonya here as if they love the president, they are good at chanting slogans in the public, but deep down their hearts they don’t love him.

“At night, they are busy plotting his ouster claiming that he is old hence he must go so that they can take over,” she said staggeringly, suggesting further that Zanu PF’s ugly factional and succession fights were taking their toll on her 90-year-old husband.

This is a heavy and extraordinary statement, coming as it did from the wife of the leader of the ruling party and our long suffering country.

This is also the reason why we said right upfront in this editorial that if the president’s wife is correct in her observations, it means that there is absolutely no hope in hell that Mugabe or Zanu PF can ever resolve Zimbabwe’s worsening political and economic problems.

That naturally leaves Mugabe with two clear choices as the leader of our government, head of State and commander-in-chief of the armed forces — as lapdog State media are so wont to remind us all the time: he must either resign or fire all those who serve in his Cabinet and government who are plotting against him if Zimbabwe is ever to have a fighting chance of coming right again.

The reason for our radical advice to Mugabe is obvious. How indeed can he be expected to steer this troubled nation back to tranquil waters if his closest lieutenants, as stunningly exposed in Chinhoyi on

Thursday by his admittedly garrulous wife, are plotting to derail his plans and oust him from power?

In addition, and taking it for granted that Mugabe has known about these treasonous schemes of his colleagues for some time as announced by his wife, how can he now ever stand in front of Zimbabweans with dignity and authority and say that he is going to assist long-suffering citizens while still being backed by the very same people who can’t wait to see him gone?

This is food for thought for you Mr President.

Well said. We have Zim Asset to deal with as a nation and half the government feel it will jeopardize they chances of getting into power, thus the program cannot work. Talk of the Essar deal, the various Sollar projects, the Chingwizi ethanol, all these has just become talk shows because of the discord. Let him fire those people. Anywhere, I didn't expect the first lady be like what she showed me, ie national character which most of our politicians don't have. When you are voted into power by a certain %age you then assume responsibility over 100%. Thus great Dr Grace, sorry I didn't like you really but if you continue with the path, I am beginning to like you.

If President Mugabe fires 'plotters', he will remain with nobody in the party. Maybe his wife is also a plotter since she seems keen on taking over from him. This idea of seeing plotters all over the place arises from Mr Mugabe's leadership style whereby he thinks he is the only one capable of running the country. If a leader suppresses all potential successors, then the natural thing for them to do is to start plotting that leader's downfall, especially at Mr Mugabe's age of 90. Even in a village setting, if the sabhuku is 90 and does not indicate any possibility of a successor among his children, the children start plotting against him and against each other. That is simply natural law.

IF MUGABE CANNOT SEE THAT HE IS LONG PAST HIS SALE BY DATE, AND BLOCKS ALL ATTEMPTSOF SUCCESSION THROUGH WHATEVER MEANS, THEN HE LEAVES PEOPLE IN HIS PARTY WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO PLOT UNDERGROUND TO REMOVE HIM. THAT IS HIS OWN MAKING. HE MUSTNT THINK THAT HE IS THE ONLY PERSON CAPABLE OF RUNNING THIS COUNTRY. HIS DEPARTURE TO BE HONEST IS LONG OVERDUE. IF HE DOESNT LEAVE WILLINGLY THEN LET THEM PUSH HIM OUT. HE CANNOT HOLD ZIMBABWE TO RANSOM AS IF THERE WOULD BE NO LIFE WITHOUT HIM.

SHIBOBO - 4 October 2014

I like the satire of this opinion, which in effect is saying that Mugabe must accept that he is finished as even his most loyal followers no longer want him. Kkkkkkkkkkkk!

Grace wants Mugabe to go, that is the message she is telling us. Come straight Dr DisGrace. You are fade up with an old horse that does nothing. You can't wait to go after the young ones, now you want to bit about the bush. Grace awa nengura uyu!!!

One of Mugabe 's weaknesses is not listening to the citizens . If he had listened to what people had been saying for the past 15 he could have gone long back . But bcoz he is dull and power hungry and the thought of no one can run this country while he is still alive has made him the worst leader this country has ever had .But since they is a plot within his party to remove him zimbabweans are at list happy that even zanu know that Mugabe is the only problem in this country.Without him this country can regain its mojo of being economic power house in the continent.

@ chengerai hove sounds very logical. it certainly appears as if verybody is now plotting against the dear president at a time that one would immagine he needs support. thats a natural human phenomena. people will always find a way out of their problem(s).

In communism when things are not working the way they should you start seeing shadows of eveil beings, you blame everyone except yourself, you become so afraid of nothing that you eliminate, fire or get rid of ''enemies of the people'' the leader becomes so obsessed with power that he starts fearing his own shadow. What does DisGrace know that Mugabe dose not know!! He stupid Bod created a situation we find ourselves in, people concentrating on irrelevant issues, gays accommodated against his own principle, opportunists appointed into positions of authority and and and. To hell Grace and your husband...people are more important than you two. Suddenly you have become an advisor to your husband....what a joke. Rightly said ..if he fires senior ZANU party members there will be no one left. Media - stop giving space to this bitch to utter nonsense, she can't even control zemo rake!!
