Fiasco at Ascot Stadium

GWERU - The Castle Lager Premiership match between Chapungu and Chiredzi failed to kick-off yesterday at Ascot Stadium after the lowveld side arrived late without a playing kit and licences.

Chiredzi, who have are lying at the basement of the log standings, seems to have resigned to the fate of going down at the end of the season.

The Chiredzi players, who were less than 18, only arrived at the match after 3:30pm when the match was scheduled to kick-off at 3pm.

To make matters worse, the Chiredzi players did not have their playing kit or PSL licences which were said to be in the car following behind together with the club’s executive members.

The Chiredzi players also arrived without their coach Gishon Ntini, who has been linked with a move to Botswana Premiership last week.

After a lengthy wait, the match commissioner Japhet Mufiri decided to call off the match. Mufiri refused to comment on the abandonment of the match.

There was no Chiredzi FC executive member present to give an explanation of why the team had arrived late.

The Daily News understands that Chiredzi players had refused to board their team bus for the trip to Gweru in protest over unpaid allowances and salaries.

The team was only able to leave Chiredzi after 10am arriving at Ascot 40 minutes late with only players in sight.

Chapungu, who have not lost at home, are most likely to be awarded the match on a 3-0 score line which will go a long way in helping the air force side’s fight against relegation.

The Gweru-based side is currently in 10th place on the log with 29 points from 23 and if they are awarded the three points from yesterday’s match they will inch closer to safety.

Gishon Ntini is not a serious coach, how do you travel with players and no kiti waiti unoiwana kupi?
