Mutare City stay top

HARARE - Mutare City stayed top of the Zifa Eastern Region Division One League log standings after walloping Mutare Poly 3-0 over the weekend.

The Mutare City Council-owned side now lead the log standing with 51 points, three ahead of second-placed Buffaloes Junior, who beat Surrey Abattoir 1-0 to maintain pressure on the log leaders.

Mutare City started their season on a positive note, winning 15 games drawing six and losing only once from 22 games played so far.

Midlands State University took over control of the Zifa Central Region Division One League leadership after beating Chrome Stars 1-0.

Whawha, who were on the summit of the log last week, were not in action at the weekend after their match with Zvishavane Stars was postponed. Zvishavane Stars failed to produce player’s licenses.

The Students now lead the log standing with 42 points, one ahead of second-placed Gweru City, who beat Vumbachikwe 1-0 to maintain pressure on the leading pack.

In the World Navi Northern Region Division One League, former Premiership side Black Mambas, who were also tipped for a quick return to the top-flight league at the start of the season continued with their poor form after played to a one all draw with Chegutu on Sunday.

At the top of the log, Gunners extended their lead following a 1-0 win over second-placed Flame Lilly at Chikurubhi.

With that win, the 2009 Zimbabwe champions opened a four-point lead over the Zimbabwe Prison Services-owned side.
