PE basketball tourney begins

HARARE - The ever-growing Prince Edward Basketball Tournament roars into life this afternoon at the Harare school with 42 teams confirming participation.

Sledge Chinyoka, master in charge of basketball at PE, said everything was in place for the biggest schoolboy basketball tournament in the country.

“We have previously hosted this event and we know how to prepare for such a tournament,” Chinyoka told the Daily News yesterday.

“This is an important event for junior basketball players because they will share ideas on how to develop their skills.

“The tournament began with few schools but now has grown into a popular event, attracting many schools from across the country.”

Prince Edward, known as the Panthers, are the defending champions in the boys category while Girls High are the girls holders. 

Some of the participating schools are St John’s College, St George's College, Petra, Mutare Boys High, Gateway,  Mufakose 2 High, Churchill, Girls High, Nagle House, Peterhouse, Watershed, Plumtree, Bulawayo Convent, Roosevelt, CBC, Gifford, Kyle College, Gokomere, Chinduduma, Westridge, Heritage, Royal College, Chipadze, Kwekwe High, amongst others.
