Woman jailed 20 years for sex with minors

HARARE - An HIV positive Highfield woman who was paid by two teenage boys to have sex with them has been sentenced to 20 years in jail.

Regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya handed Faith Gona, 38, a mandatory 10-year sentence for having sexual intercourse with a minor.

According to evidence tendered in court, Gona had a clientele which comprised several teenage boys in the high density area.

In mitigation, Gona denied the allegations, claiming there was no way she could have had sexual intercourse with the two boys when she was a married woman.

She said her husband was always available to meet her sexual needs.

When her husband was asked to the witness stand. he contradicted his wife, giving conflicting dates of the day they got married and whether she kept condoms in her house.

The husband said he used to bring condoms at home.

Facts leading to her conviction are that in December 2013, one of the 14-year-old boys went to Gona’s house with one of his friends who used to receive sexual favours from her.

The minor and his friend negotiated a sum to pay the woman. She was reportedly paid $3 for the sexual liaison.

On another day in January, the minor went to Gona’s house and offered her some second-hand clothes in exchange for sex.

In March, another 14-year-old boy approached Gona with the intention of having sexual intercourse with her.

He offered her his grandmother’s clothes as payment for the services rendered.

There are mitigating factors and I feel that Amai ava should not have to go to jail. I recall when I was a teenager how one can have an inferno muchiwuno kunyengetedza vachiramba. Takazowana vamwe, we had fun getting into a dam swelling with rain. The judge should understand that boys will be boys and will do anything to get between those long legs especially ane nhedzamutundo, mateya, zvidya zvakatsvukirira. The nights were long and ukazvirotera chokwadi kutoti vadzimu vandirwira hondo. Ndiwo maitiro avo vakomana. Does the Judge realize how difficult it is to lay a woman at that age. The girls your age have Dad or mum watching and you can't screw them. Boys have an upper hand over women in our culture. The little men, you can tell put a lot of pressure on this lady. Dai pasina kutya chakawuya kutoda kuziva kuti vanogara papi Amai ava. Truth be told ndakadzikamiswa nechakawuya. Mudzimai anoziva kuti ini handikwati asa kudya rake tichiseya nenyama nyoro.
