TM opens Msasa branch

HARARE - TM Supermarkets has taken over Jaggers Msasa, launching the branch yesterday after spending close to $4,5 million in refurbishing the superstore.

The Old Mutual-owned Msasa branch has been fully stocked.

The shopping complex was opened yesterday with officials from Meikles Limited, the supermarket chain’s parent company, in attendance.

Of the $4,5 million, $3 million went towards building refurbishments, new equipment which includes about 20 Point of Sale machines, refrigerators, bakery equipment, an up market
butchery and air conditioning system. The balance went towards stocking the new supermarket.

The store, which has been laid out as a large supermarket where customers will be able to get all their grocery requirements under one roof and also take advantage of a well-stocked
wholesale section, is welcome news for bulk buyers of groceries and traders.

Like all TM and Pick n Pay Supermarkets nationwide, the TM Msasa branch boasts a well-stocked and spacious fresh produce section, where customers will be able to access the best farm produce Zimbabwe has to offer.

Customers have the added convenience of a spacious, guarded parking area that ensures that they can shop in comfort, without the concern for the safety of their vehicles.

Union Hardware, a leading retailer of hardware products, has also taken up space at the Msasa complex, making it a diversified area where customers will be able to take care of a
range of needs in one easy, convenient location.

Tanganda Tea Company, another Meikles Group associate company, has also taken up space at the over 2 500 square metres shopping complex. There are two distribution centres, one for TM and another for Tanganda.

The distribution centres take up about 8 000 square metres while the trading area for the new supermarket takes up about 5 000 square metres.

In keeping with the other TM and Pick n Pay store opened recently, TM Msasa has hired new staff to take care of customer needs, which have undergone rigorous training, to ensure that
the highest standards of customer service are delivered at all times.

The 200 new staff members were recruited primarily from the surrounding areas, which is a philosophy of the retailer to impact the communities in which they operate.

This brings to 3 700 the total staff complement employed by TM and Pick n Pay.

The supermarket becomes the third to be opened by the retail group this year after the re-opening of its Chinhoyi branch after an electrical fault caused a fire that gutted the supermarket, and the historic opening of its third Pick n Pay outlet at Arundel Shopping Centre in Mount Pleasant, Harare.

Demonstrating the commitment TM Supermarkets has to the retail sector in Zimbabwe, it refurbished and relaunched the Chinhoyi branch in record time, while making it even better than
it was.

TM Supermarkets is also renovating Bulawayo Hyper, TM Kwekwe and is opening a Pick & Pay supermarket in Gweru among many other refurbishment exercises currently underway.

The supermarket chain is one of the leading food and grocery retail brands in Zimbabwe and currently comprises of a branch network of 53 stores countrywide whose store formats range
from convenient small supermarkets to hypermarkets.

The increase of supermarkets from 49 in March last year to 53, increased trading space by 10 percent. The business also has Pick n Pay of South Africa as a shareholder with a 49 percent stake in a relationship that encompasses the sharing of technical expertise and sourcing of the much needed product brands from South Africa to compliment the Zimbabwean range.

I am very proud with TM the group has not decided to leave Zimbabwe as it is a Zimbabwean Brand, But of concern is the TM that we have in Highfield Machipisa branch leaves a lot to be disired in terms of space and beauty we are looking forward to have a TM in the magnitude of OK Zimbabwe in terms of space and stocks. The TM Machipisa is like a turk shop to say the least so please see to it that by time clients are looking to a more spacius TM come Christmas time as we jam this little cubicle .
