ZPC's bubble burst

HARARE - Three jets flew past Ascot Stadium in diamond formation before the match as if signifying Chapungu’s 3-0 mauling of ZPC Kariba to hand the debutants their first Castle Premiership defeat.

After 19 games, ZPC were the only unbeaten team in the league, displaying an aura of invincibility up until red-hot Chapungu burst the bubble here yesterday.

Chapungu, who are still to lose at home, started the match with so much confidence, keeping Kariba-based side on the back foot.

The visitors clearly missed their goalkeeper and captain Tendai Hove, who missed the match due to a family bereavement. His place was taken by a jittery Wilson Muchenje, who failed
to command the defence.

Brighton Mugoni broke the deadlock with a pinpoint header off a Victor Bangira cross on the left in the 32nd minute.

Pardon Chinungwa, who partnered Ephraim Mwinga in defence, beat his own keeper on 56 minutes trying to clear a Charles Murisa effort.

Mugoni then completed his brace in the 65th minute when he received a pass from Bangira inside the box and rounded off Dexter Phiri before placing the ball beyond the reach of the

ZPC Kariba assistant coach Tembo Chuma blamed the loss to the absence of key players.
