Zim DJ to perform in Las Vegas

HARARE - Top Zimbabwean wheel spinner DJ Ray Dizz is scheduled to leave for Las Vegas, United States of America this morning to represent Zimbabwe in the DJ Mag Top 100 Party set for Marquee Nightclub on Saturday.

The high-riding DJ, whose real name is Rayhaan Jassat, outperformed several leading Zimbabwean wheel spinners to qualify for the Miller Sound Clash competitions held in Bulawayo and Harare.

Phil Chad, who manages the affairs of the multitalented artiste, is confident that the DJ will fly the Zimbabwean flag with distinction.

“He is set to be the first Zimbabwean DJ to perform in the Marquee Night Club and that makes him very proud,” Chad told the Daily News.

“The presentation he will make on August 23 is ready but he is currently fine-tuning the presentation. He is confident that he will come out tops against some of the world’s top DJs.”

The Zimbabwe-born Ray Dizz, who is also into designing, began his love affair with design and music when he was a young teenager.

His talent and passion allowed him to further his studies abroad at Totton College in Southampton in the United Kingdom where he attained an Art and Design Degree.

While doing his studies in the United Kingdom, he focused on mastering his craft and perfecting his sets at house parties and small functions in Southampton.

The 2013 StarFM Battle of The DJs winner got his big break when he was invited to play at The Ministry of Sound in London.

DJ Ray Dizz then went on to collaborate with several UK producers and artistes, including DJ Semtex and Dready.

In 2009, Ray Dizz returned to Zimbabwe and did not take time to make his mark in his home land. A year later, he won The Zimbabwean Battle of the DJs competition.

In the same year, he toured the country along with the United Kingdom-based pair, BKay and Kazz. Zimbabwe’s most-sought after DJ has also opened for visiting international artistes like Sean Kingston, P Square, Ice Prince and D’Banj.

This year, has turned out to be arguably Ray Dizz’s most successful to date. The first Zimbabwean to DJ on DStv’s popular reality show, Big Brother Africa Amplified in 2012, beat
competition from Zimbabwe and South Africa to win the Miller SoundClash competition.

The prize included a one-year brand ambassador deal for Miller Genuine Draft and the honour of being the first Zimbabwean DJ to play at the world famous Marquee Nightclub in Las Vegas this Saturday.
