NFZBBF sets record straight

HARARE - The National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness (NFZBBF) has distanced itself from the cancelation of Musclemania Zimbabwe contest.

Musclemania Zimbabwe, a privately run contest, was scheduled to be held on the August 9 at Ochi City but the organisers postponed the event at the end of last month saying they needed more time secure the resources to host the event.

The contest was one of the most lucrative bodybuilding events since it was established in 2012 as it offered various prizes like vehicles and residential stands for the winners.

At the weekend, NFZBBF held a meeting to discuss the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the event.

The federation spokesperson, Quiet Shangai said the local bodybuilders should not despair as they have a chance to compete at least two competitions before the end of the year.

“NFZBBF does not take liability of cancelation of private shows but however, it sanctions these shows,” Shangai told the Daily News.

“The current model is private players and provincial structures propose dates for their shows and NFZBBF approves the dates after looking at a number of factors such as the competition’s contribution towards development and women participating together with recognition of the disabled.

“The duty of the executive will then be to expedite in order to assess the likelihood of the show. If there are signs of failure the executive will sit down with all the stakeholders to map the way forward.

“There is nothing that the executive can do if a private player requests to change dates except to see if it’s technically feasible or not.”

Shangai said as the NFZBBF they are only responsible for hosting the Mr Zimbabwe, Ironaman, Mr Noice and provincial contests while private parties are allowed to organise their own shows which must be sanctioned first.

“The duty of NFZBBF is to promote bodybuilding and fitness participating through creation and maintaining of festivals. It is also our duty to create career progression models,” he said.

“That is the reason why we are introducing fitness expo at Mr and Ms Zim to initiate and implement a fitness industry that is viable and linked.

“On Musclemania we will have to agree on a date with the executive. The executive will assess but the bottom line is that NFZBBF is liable when it comes to Mr and Ms Zim, Ironman, Novice and provincial shows because it has total control whilst private shows are only permitted to take place in given parameters.”
