Chiredzi win seven-goal thriller

MUTARE - Chiredzi FC dumped Buffaloes out of the Chibuku Super Cup in a drama-filled seven-goal thriller here yesterday.

David Temwanjira and Tawanda Muyendi scored braces with a goal each either half.

The army side’s goals came through Kastigu Zhuwakinyu, Lloyd Katongomara and captain Jacob Muzokomba. The match had a 10-minute delay after the Lowveld side’s backroom staff — save for coach Gishon Ntini — were ejected from the bench by the match official.

Buffaloes were also missing the services of their head coach Luke Masomere.

Buffaloes took the lead after an evenly contested 18 minutes through a well-executed Zhuwakinyu effort off a Muzokomba pass with Chiredzi equalising six minutes later through Temwanjira’s low drive from outside the box. Katongomara then outraced the aging David Sengu to give the soldiers the lead again on 39 minutes which was again cancelled out by a Muyendi free header to go to the break tied at two all.

Muyendi then scored from close range four minutes later to give Chiredzi a comfortable two-goal cushion. Watungwa-watungwa only reduced the arrears 12 minutes from time with a Muzokomba penalty after Katongomara was fouled by Munashe Chinembeza.
