Zifa board member robbed, assaulted

MUTARE - Cecilia Gambe, the Zifa women’s soccer board member competitions,  was on Monday robbed of her cellphone and $150.

She was assaulted when she tried to confront one of the thieves.

Raymond Masengero, 38, of N216A Area C in Dangamvura, was arrested over the theft, which happened at around 1am at Pick and Save during a musical show.

Masengero denied the charges when he appeared before magistrate Sekai Chiundura yesterday. He was remanded on $50 bail to August 27 for trial.

It is the State’s case that Masengero stole Gambe’s Nokia cellphone, estimated to be worth $120, and $150 cash. He allegedly quickly gave them to an accomplice, who is still at large.

When Gambe confronted Masengero, the State claims he assaulted her.

She did not sustain serious injuries warranting medical attention.

Other patrons at the musical gig then apprehended Masengero, who was handed over to Mutare Central Police Station.

Brian Goto was prosecuting.
