Herentals schools tourney unearths gems

HARARE - Kudakwashe Remba, organiser of the Herentals’ Principal Directors’ Trophy, has praised the talent on show during the tournament, won overall by Mabvuku Herentals.

Mabvuku won the tournament with 12 points on Thursday in the capital, finishing two points ahead of Kwekwe Herentals.

High-density side Mabvuku were victorious in both the boys and girls soccer competitions.

However, Kwekwe also returned to the Midlands smiling after winning the Finance Director Trophy.  Kwekwe finished with 24 points after dominating in tennis, rugby, volleyball and basketball.

“The competition was very exciting, this is a very important tournament for us because it aids the development of schools sport in our country,” Remba told the Daily News after the event.

“For the talent of the juniors, I think as a country we need to put more resources on these juniors in order to develop from grass root level, we have good talented juniors yesterday.

“Our college is complementing government efforts of upholding sports in schools. Sports bring about social platforms beyond the limited schools scope.”
