Gigs awaken Gweru

GWERU - A sedentary Gweru last weekend came alive with a hive of activities keeping the city’s entertainment-starved fans on their feet in the local pubs, with the Miss Gweru finals headlining an eventful weekend.

The city hosted Zim dancehall Kings on Friday where big names like Winky D, Freeman, Guspy Warrior and rising star Toky Vibes topped the billing.

Winky D and company pulled up a cracker of a show, leaving the fans mainly composed of Midlands State University (MSU) returning students begging for more, with upcoming star

Legion putting up a commendable show.

Gweru was once again set ablaze by performances from Enock Guni (Nox) at the Gweru Agricultural Show grounds where the Ndinonyara hit maker did not disappoint his legion of fans in the heart of Zimbabwe.

A sound clash followed Nox’s performance as various dancehall Djs took to the turntables showing their music prowess to a wild crowd.

It was all glitz and glamour at the Miss Gweru finals held at the Cathedral, where stunning models strutted their stuff at a well-attended event.

Tapuwanashe Arizhimu, a 23-year-old final year student at MSU won the Miss Gweru title, taking over from Mellisa Moyo, with Blessing Mudiwa scooping the first princess and stunning 19-year-old Herentals College student Nyarai Masunga in third place.

Arizhimu won a voucher to Elephant Hills Hotel, courtesy of Elephant Hills, while first and second princesses won a weekend voucher to the same resort.

Speaking to the Daily News, Image Modelling Agency founder, Mavis Kloset said: “Considering the number of events that same night, Miss Gweru still had a huge turnout.”

“We are very proud of the girls and I wish them a successful reign,” Kloset added.

An exciting weekend was sealed with a performance by Mathias Mhere at a gospel show held at the Gweru Agricultural Show, with gospel enthusiasts singing along to the Favour singer.

Mhere put up a spell-binding performance coupled with good choreography, it was enough to end a rare, fulfilled weekend.
