'We have failed'

HARARE - Zanu PF junior spokesperson Psychology Maziwisa has conceded that his party is struggling to create the so-called 2 million jobs it promised during election time last year.

While his party bosses were wining and dining at State House, celebrating last year’s controversial poll victory on Thursday evening, Maziwisa was at the deep end at a local hotel, being bombarded with questions mostly about the economy.

Maziwisa, along with Welshman Ncube’s MDC deputy president Edwin Mushoriwa and MDC renewal team spokesperson Jacob Mafume, was a panellist during a public seminar hosted by Mass Public Opinion Institute.

People from all walks of life who attended the seminar said Zanu PF had so far failed to deliver on its electoral promises which were transformed into a government economic blue print, ZimAsset.

At one point, Maziwisa threatened to walk out of the seminar, arguing that people were not giving him a chance to reply.

But when the master of ceremonies reined in the crowd, Maziwisa argued, rather lamely and unconvincingly, that it was sanctions which were impinging Zanu PF on implementing its policies.

He said even American president Barack Obama, was struggling to fulfil his promises and he has become the worst USA president ever.

Maziwisa said: “It is important to understand the background before we go to the substantive. For the last decade-and-a-half, we have been facing challenges due to the illegal sanctions.

“The challenges are still there today and it is difficult for us to create the jobs.

“Look, in America, even Obama is failing to fulfil all the things that he promised Americans. There was a recent survey carried out and it showed that Obama is the most unpopular president ever because he has failed to do all that he promised to do. He has failed to create the jobs that he promised.”

However, Maziwisa was quick to add that his party had not totally failed to create employment as the formalisation of more than 500 000 small-scale miners (Makorokozas) was creation of new employment.

“When the formalisation of the small-scale miners is done, there will be 500 000 people paying taxes and employing people so we are no longer talking about the 400 000 jobs that we must have delivered in the first year. We are talking about more than 500 000 jobs.”

But, Mushoriwa could not stomach Maziwisa’s assertions saying: “Don’t tell us about the 500 000 new jobs when there is nothing new.

“We want you to tell us of real jobs and not imagined ones.

“We want you to create real 2 million jobs.”

Mazivisa should stop lying.ZANU PF has totally failed the nation. Obama's failure in US can never be in any way compared to ZANU PF's failure here .The people simply need jobs as promised by ZANU PF.We have nothing to do with what's happening in America. You can never compare Zim's ailing economy to that of America. After all Americans never monitored the July 2013 elections in Zimbabwe .

when you promised to create the 2 million jobs didnt you know that there were sanctions. By virtue of you promising to create the jobs in an environment "infested with sanctions" you are actually creating a picture whereby you are saying sanctions will not deter our efforts to create the jobs. Go back to secondary school Maziwisa

makorokoza have always been there! how can zanu claim to have created makorokoza and their jobs post 2013 elections? so lame!

Tony Blair - 4 August 2014

Maziwisa is a dreamer, Obama created 209,000 jobs just this month alone, and so far he has created 9.5 million jobs in 6 years.

Mutengesimukuru - 4 August 2014

Currently the nation can not talk of job creation what the current government has done is to reduce the already employed people , the current economic status has shown a decline each and every month to the extent that we will have this year growth rate revised again to 1.1% if not to -1.3%

Genuine Leadership takes full responsibility for this failure, instead of blaming it on the sanctions. How can these guys still think that its their entitlement to govern based on the fact that they liberated the country? Failure is when the ones who are ruling think they are doing very well because they are driving the best cars, whilst the whole population is struggling to buy the basics, without water in the taps, without electricity. They have the degrees, but lack the wisdom to implement the critical components that turns the economy around. This ZimAssets is an easy program to implement, but guess what, we didn't fight during the war of liberation. Zanu-Pf achieved a lot to liberate this country, that was their role. Simple, David fought the wars, but God didn't allow him to build him the Temple. The same applies here, but that does not mean, Mugabe's children to rule this country. Muzenda's children are in parliament, and the list is endless, but guess what, they all will pay a heavy price. When the true leadership comes into Office and this is not Tsvangirai, because he is also self serving. How embarrassing, why is he still staying in the Government House? A man failed to pay school fees for his children and was blaming the next door family, yet he was buying new suits, eating at expensive hotels to impress his friends, and buying new cars. The lack of planing for the future, is the Moral Hazard of Zanu-Pf borrowing knowing they wont repay and the next Government will have to settle the debt. Shame on all of you, shame on you all member of political parties, selfishness and greed kills.

Let's get the record straight. Obama's unpopularity has nothing to do with economy. Unemployment rate has for the 1st time since the 90s dipped to around 6% and the major economic indices are at all time high. Dow Jones touched 17,000 points and is likely to stay higher by year end. Get it right Psyco.

How can Maziwisa extract reliable revenue from makorokoza when most of zanu and like are used to evade tax..

frankly - 5 August 2014

This young man really needs some psychological attention.

Brain - 5 August 2014

You Zanupf guys have turned the Zimbabwe into a country of vendors and beggars. The young man is talking of mining that is not formalized. Most of the mining that is being conducted is illegal, moreso no funds are being channeled to the fiscus and you expect economic growth. The problem with us Zimbaweans is we keep placing our hopes on people you have failed the country. These people will never change. Zanu pf is there to protect their interest and the Mugabe`s own interests. Do not be fooled by Zanu pf my fellow country men.
