Shoko 2014: Re-inspire, re-imagine

HARARE - Shoko Festival is going to grace our capital city once again this year in September. It will be running under the theme “Re-Inspire Re-Imagine” at Alex Sports Club.

This year the Festival requires the public to rethink creatively, to look at the way they see themselves, the country and the future, to breathe life into the world, to “re-inspire”, to “re-imagine.”

Expect a transformed festival site including funky installations that will range from wild to wilder, an up-cycling contest between local designers and engineers, a fun day for the young and families, new elements added to our tried and tested formula.

Alongside this of course we will have an inspiring day programme of talks on new media, technology, citizen journalism and positive activism. By night we will have a kicking line up of concerts: from comedy to live music.

This year’s edition will feature some awesome international headline acts. Headlining this year’s festival will be the international sensation, Nneka.

Hailing from Germany and Nigeria Nneka is a powerful singer and songwriter who has exploded in Europe, Africa and the US.

Nneka will bring her legendary live show to our festival main stage this year.

Headling our Shoko Comedy Night will be the South African duo of Loyiso Gola and Chester Missing. Loyiso Gola is one of the biggest comedians on the continent and his satirical news show Late Night News recently won an Emmy award in the US.

Chester Missing is without doubt the funniest puppet on the continent. Operated by veteran ventriloquist Conrad Coch, Chester features on Late Night News and has endeared himself to audiences everywhere. Finally for our poetry lovers, we will have Buddy Wakefield from the USA. Buddy is one of the most amazing poets to emerge from America in the last decade and has taken his inspiring spoken word across the globe.

Zimbabwe will be represented by sensational headline acts such as Netsayi, Tehn Diamond, Ammara Brown, Q the Boss, Jason Leroux, Rax & Raydizz and Ba Shupi.

We will be announcing more local and international headline acts over the next few weeks. We just wanted to give you a taste of the awesomeness you should expect in two months time. So join us on this journey to Shoko 2014 to re-inspire, to re-imagine and to have a damn good time.
