ZC names contracted player list

HARARE - Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has revealed a list of 21 players for the 2014-15 season, handing central contracts to 15 players up from 10.

Eight players – Tendai Chatara, Shingi Masakadza, Sikandar Raza Butt, Regis Chakabva, Tinotenda Mawoyo, Tinashe Panyangara and Natsai M’Shangwe – earn central contracts for the first time while Donald Tiripano, John Nyumbu and Richmond Mutumbami have been handed winter contracts.

Batsman Sean Williams has also earned a central contract following a previous fallout with the board.

The new payroll marks the return of veteran batsman Mark Vermeulen, who was included on the winter contract list.

Having retired from international cricket last season, spinners Graeme Cremer and Ray Price alongside fast bowler Kyle Jarvis were not considered and are the most notable omission from last year's list.

Other noteworthy exclusions include all-rounders Keegan Meth and Chamu Chibhabha together with pace bowlers Chris Mpofu and Ed Rainsford.

In a statement yesterday, ZC said the six players on winter contracts are eligible for the franchise contracts that ZC will offer for the 2014-15 season.

There will be a total of 40 franchise contracts, with each of the four sides – Mashonaland Eagles, Matabeleland Tuskers, Midwest Rhinos and Manicaland Mountaineers – having 10.
